HISTORY Founded in 1999 as TrainingBible.com, LLC, the company name was changed to Training Peaks, LLC in 2004 to reflect a merger with Cycling Peaks Software. In early 2007, the company became Peaksware, LLC to differentiate the corporate entity from individual products and to better convey the organizations focus on software development. Frustration Leads to Opportunity In 1999 Joe Friel was well on his way to developing a high quality coaching and consulting business. Inquiries and general questions on training sky rocketed and many revolved around the demand for training software based on Joe's methods and philosophies. Some readers had even gone as far as to create their own Excel spreadsheets to help them plan their annual training plans, yet they couldn't integrate their daily training log in an efficient and effective way. Both Joe and his son Dirk were frustrated by reliance on the archaic methods for recording training and racing parameters. Athletes were required to record their training logs by hand and then either fax or mail the information daily to their coaches. It was quickly evident that this process was unreliable, due to human error and lack of time and motivation by the athlete to adhere to the tedious process. The Big Idea Gear Fisher, a racing companion and good friend of Dirk Friel, was intrigued by the problem posed by coaches trying to effectively collect information about their athletes. Drawing on his athletic background and interest in web technologies, Gear suggested a web-based data system that could act as a training log and coaching software. The value of linking coaches and athletes through the web was immediately apparent. The three partners agreed to proceed with the project and within six months a beta version was created. We're Live! Between June and October of 2000 TrainingPeaks.com went live and was tested by four coaches and their athletes. Initial development was followed by the creation of tools for self coached athletes including the Virtual Coach and interoperability with athletic hardware like Heart Rate Monitors, GPS, Bar Code Scanners and Power Meters. Eventually the system attracted the attention from outside coaches. Today, Training Peaks is trusted by thousands of athletes, coaches and health care professionals, but we are still dedicated to helping individuals achieve their personal goals and dreams.
